College Football Week 7 Top 25 Picks, Odds, Box Score Predictions, Rankings, Schedule

Joe TanseyOct 6, 2025

The Oregon Ducks and Ohio State Buckeyes have opportunities to reinforce their status as two of the top teams in college football in Week 7.

Oregon gets a visit from the seventh-ranked Indiana Hoosiers, who enter Saturday as the third-best team in the Big Ten.

Indiana has been in the College Football Playoff mix since Curt Cignetti took over last year, but the Hoosiers have struggled against the nation's elite teams.

Ohio State heads on the road to face the Illinois Fighting Illini, who are currently the best of the rest in the Big Ten after the three top-10 teams.

The Buckeyes are expected to win big, but another substantial victory would reinforce just how big the gap is between them and other ranked programs.

2 of 4
COLLEGE FOOTBALL: SEP 27 Oregon at Penn State

Oregon proved two weeks ago that it resides in the elite echelon of CFB programs with a road overtime win over the Penn State Nittany Lions, who at the time were a top-10 team.

The Ducks have an opportunity to build on that victory with a home triumph over Indiana.

The Hoosiers are only 1-2 against top-10 teams under Curt Cignetti. The lone win was on September 20 against Illinois, who isn't on the same level as Oregon and Ohio State.

Indiana lost 38-15 and 27-17 to top-10 foes last season, the first of which was a conference road game against Ohio State.

It's a small sample size, but it's still a concerning trend that Indiana can't raise its level to the elite programs in the sport.

Oregon is the more trustworthy side in this matchup, and with the way it is putting up points, it is easy to back as a 7.5-point favorite.

The Ducks produced at least 30 points in all of their five games behind first-year starting quarterback Dante Moore.

A double-digit win from Moore and Co. will reinforce Oregon's status as at least a top-three team alongside Ohio State and the Miami Hurricanes.

Prediction: Oregon (-7.5)

No. 1 Ohio State (-15.5) at No. 17 Illinois

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: OCT 04 Minnesota at Ohio State

Ohio State looks every bit of the No. 1 team in the country.

The Buckeyes passed their first road test against the Washington Huskies two weeks ago and they've held all five opponents to single-digit point totals.

OSU's defense is playing at a historic level, which makes it easy to trust it as a 15.5-point favorite on the road.

Illinois established itself as the best of the rest beneath the top three in the Big Ten, but beating the USC Trojans at home is a different type of task than upsetting the top-ranked Buckeyes.

Illinois' defense was gashed by Indiana for 63 points three weeks ago. USC scored 32 points on the Illini two weeks ago and the Purdue Boilermakers put up 27 on them on Saturday.

The lack of stops from the Illini will be one of the few factors that lead to a big win for the Buckeyes in Champaign.

If OSU's defense holds another opponent to single digits, it might need just 27 or 30 points to easily cover the spread.

Prediction: Ohio State (-15.5)

Vanderbilt v Alabama

The SEC has its share of important Week 7 games as well.

The Alabama Crimson Tide continue a brutal stretch of their schedule with a road clash against the Missouri Tigers.

Bama beat the Georgia Bulldogs on the road and then fended off the Vanderbilt Commodores in consecutive weeks. After Saturday's trip to Columbia, Bama is back home against the Tennessee Volunteers.

Mizzou's played far less of a brutal schedule, but it be able to catch Alabama at a difficult part of its own SEC slate.

Bama needs its defense to travel to avoid an upset and continues its push toward the top five.

The Crimson Tide limited Georgia to 21 points and held three other opponents to 14 points or fewer in their three other victories.

Containing the Beau Pribula-Ahmad Hardy duo will be tough because Bama averages 155.5 rush yards allowed per game.

Alabama does boast the nation's fifth-best passing defense, so if it can slow down Hardy out of the backfield, it can limit Pribula's passing potential.

Mizzou has some impressive defensive numbers of its own. The Tigers allow 203.8 yards per game, the second-fewest total in the country, but they've only played two power-four schools.

Saturday's game will be the true test of Mizzou's defense, but right now, Bama has the more proven unit.

Prediction: Alabama (-3.5)
