Texas Tech is bolstering its defensive line with one of the top prospects in the Class of 2027.

Five-star defensive lineman Jalen Brewster chose the Red Raiders over Ohio State and Indiana, he announced on a Saturday night CBS Sports livestream.

Brewster is listed at 6-foot-3 and 302 pounds out of Cedar Hill High School in Texas. He is listed as the No. 1 defensive lineman and No. 9 overall prospect in 247Sports composite rankings of the 2027 class.

After playing on both sides of the ball as a part-time running back during his sophomore 2024 season, Brewster focused on defense during his junior high school campaign, per On3's M. Clare.

247Sports scouting analyst Gabe Brooks described Brewster as a "strong, explosive front-line defender with an impressive combination of size and athleticism" and a potential high-major impact player in college who could become a bona fide NFL Draft candidate."

The Red Raiders have ties to Cedar Hill through head coach Joe McGuire, who served as head coach of the high school program 2003 to 2016.

Brewster told Clare in July that he had known McGuire since he was in middle school and that he had a "deep connection" with the coach.

That relationship may have helped McGuire and Texas Tech beat out offers from other top programs including Ohio State, Oregon, Texas and Oklahoma.

Brewster's commitment caps off a dominant recruitment run for Texas Tech. Since June the program has received commitments from five-star prospects including offensive lineman Felix Ojo and defensive end LaDamion Guyton as well as four-stars including cornerback S'Vioarean Martin, safety Donovan Webb, running back Ace Rowden, offensive lineman Bryce Gilmore, wide receiver Chase Campbell and defensive lineman K'Adrian Redmond, per On3's Benjamin Golan.

Even with five-star offensive tackle Cooper Hackett flipping last month from Texas Tech to Oklahoma, McGuire's recruiting run has the Red Rebels set to field one of the top 2027 classes in college football.
