Michael Vick's Norfolk State Loses to Hampton, Drops to 1-5 After 4th Straight Loss

Julia StumbaughOct 4, 2025

Norfolk State is struggling with maintaining leads early in Michael Vick's debut season as a collegiate head coach.

The Spartans (1-5) led early on Saturday afternoon before conceding a fourth straight defeat with an 41-34 loss to Hampton (2-4).

The four-game losing streak has featured multiple blown leads by Vick and Norfolk State.

Norfolk State opened Saturday's game with three straight touchdown drives to take an early 21-10 lead.

The Spartans' defense was then unable to stop Hampton from scoring 17 unanswered points to recover the lead by the end of the first half.

Vick's program made a late comeback push with a fourth-quarter touchdown drive that brought the visitors within three points of tying the game.

The Spartans were unable to stop Pirates running back Braden Davis, however, on a 21-yard touchdown run that ended up making the difference in the win.

Norfolk State struggled with discipline in the loss, committing two turnovers and only narrowly avoiding a third while receiving 17 penalties for 154 yards.

Vick joined Colorado's Deion Sanders as former NFL stars launching coaching careers with HBCU programs when he was hired by Norfolk State last December.

He won his first game as head coach in the second week of the season, when he led the Spartans to a 34-31 overtime victory over Virginia State on Sept. 6.

Norfolk State has not returned to the win column since, with a blowout defeat by Rutgers followed by losses to Sacred Heart and Wagner.

Vick and the Spartans will look to bounce back next Saturday during a road game against Wofford in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
