Eagles' DeVonta Smith Reportedly Has 'Frustrations' with Offense, Has 'Stayed Quiet'

Paul KasabianOct 4, 2025

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith "has stayed quiet despite his own frustrations" with the team's offense, per Dianna Russini of The Athletic.

"A.J. Brown is frustrated … again," Russini began in reference to Smith's fellow starting wideout.

"He's made that clear, while the other high-paid receiver in Philadelphia, DeVonta Smith, has stayed quiet despite his own frustrations, multiple sources tell me. The wideouts in Philadelphia clearly want more touchdowns. They each have one."

The defending Super Bowl champions have started the season 4-0, but the pass game hasn't gotten going. Of note, Smith has caught just 17 passes for 158 yards and one touchdown, and Brown has 14 receptions for 151 yards and a score.

Brown notably sent out a since-deleted tweet expressing his frustrations after his team's 31-25 road win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last Sunday, when he caught just two passes for seven yards.

Brown apologized for the tweet a few days later and took "full accountability."

Of course, both Brown and Smith are capable of much better production and have shown it.

Last season, Brown caught 67 passes for 1,079 yards and seven touchdowns. He amassed over 1,400 yards in 2022 and 2023 with the Eagles as well.

Smith, who is in his fifth NFL season, had 68 catches for 833 yards and six scores last year. He had 1,000-yard seasons in 2022 and 2023 as well.

Obviously, the numbers aren't there right now, but there are still 13 games left in the season. Plus, the sky isn't exactly falling in Philadelphia, a team that's won 20 of its last 21 games.

Simply put, the Eagles' run game has taken full focus right now behind quarterback Jalen Hurts and running back Saquon Barkley.

"Right now, for the Eagles, it's run, run, run, (Jalen) Hurts off-schedule pass, tush push," a league source told Russini. "For their receivers, that means when they get to the red zone, they aren't getting the ball — and they know it. Hence the frustrations."

We'll see if things change soon enough in Philadelphia on Sunday, when the Eagles host the Denver Broncos.
