Emmanuel Frimpong Banned 2 Matches for Response to Alleged Racial Abuse
FC Ufa midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong was banned for two games on July 22 for his conduct against Spartak Moscow on July 17 as the Russian FA rejected his racism claims on, according to Eurosport:
""The match inspector and the match delegate did not note that there had been any disciplinary violations by Spartak supporters towards Frimpong in the match reports." the head of the Disciplinary Committee Artur Grigoryants said, per the report. "There were no instances of racism. We have no grounds to take disciplinary sanctions against Spartak. Frimpong has been banned for two games for the offensive gesture he displayed towards the stands."
"
The midfielder was sent off in a match against Spartak on July 17 after he reacted to alleged racial abuse from a Spartak supporter, per James Whaling of the Daily Mirror.
According to the Associated Press (via Yahoo Sports), Frimpong used his finger to gesture to the fan in question in the 31st minute, and the referee promptly issued him a red card.
The 23-year-old sounded off about the situation on Twitter:
Frimpong signed with Ufa last September after a short spell at Barnsley. The Ghana international is best known for his time with the Arsenal junior and senior teams. He failed to catch on in north London, and loans to Wolverhampton Wanderers, Fulham and Charlton couldn't help him find his form, either.
According to Transfermarkt, Frimpong appeared in 17 Russian Premier League matches, in addition to two Russian Cup matches, last season. He registered two assists during his time on the pitch.
The incident certainly isn't how Ufa wanted their 2015-16 season to get underway.
