Louisville Ball Boy Explains Viral Video of Trying to Get Football from Pitt Players

Louisville equipment manager Zephian Wade went viral on Saturday after a video was posted of him attempting to collect one of his team's footballs while a number of Pitt players prevented him from doing so.

Wade explained his side of the story.

"When we went to Pitt two years ago, we lost a lot of footballs," he told The Athletic's David Ubben. "So one of our main goals and something our boss was emphasizing was making sure we get footballs back. Or attempt to. I was just trying to do my job. I didn't know it was going to turn into this."

In the video, Wade was attempting to retrieve one of Louisville's footballs after Pitt linebacker Rasheem Biles intercepted quarterback Miller Moss and took it to the house. He then brought the ball to the Panthers' sideline and when Wade went to retrieve the ball, a fracas ensued.

"I've been on many sidelines where people talk mess and talk trash to you. That doesn't bother me. That's expected," he said. "But I've never had somebody put their hands on me, grab me or almost tackle me for a football."

Pitt security and Pitt's equipment staff ultimately got the ball back, but not before the viral moment. Wade was sure to pass along that info after the game:

"I don't think a lot of people realize how much work equipment managers put in behind the scenes. We do so much and shouldn't have to be going through so much just to get a football," Wade said. "I've seen people say, 'Oh, this guy's taking his job too seriously. It's just one football.' But for me, like I am very serious about this job. I take pride in this job. A lot of people just think we just do laundry for the team. We do more than that."
