Tyrese Haliburton 'On Track' with Injury Rehab, Offseason Was Mentally Challenging
Indiana Pacers star point guard Tyrese Haliburton provided an update on his continued recovery from a torn Achilles during media day on Monday.
"Going well, going well. It's coming along, I feel like I'm right on queue with where I'm supposed to be at this point. ... I feel like I'm in a good place right now," Haliburton told reporters, though he answered affirmatively when asked if the offseason has been mentally challenging.
Haliburton is set to miss the entire 2025-26 season after tearing his Achilles in Game 7 of the NBA Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder. While he admitted that the summer was a "drag" due to his inactivity, he was in good spirits as he spoke to reporters on Monday.
Despite being on the sidelines, Haliburton said he plans to be involved with the Pacers as much as he can this season, as he hopes to "be the bridge" between the players and coaches while he watches from the bench.
"Well I think whenever you don't get to play, you get a new perspective on things," Haliburton said. "There's always time to learn and grow, and I think that this year, I'm going to be able to see the game in a different way, potentially see it more from a coaching perspective, where I don't always see eye-to-eye with the coaching staff and what they're seeing. I look forward to being able to digest the game without playing for a full year. That's going to be different for me."
Being without Haliburton will make it difficult for the Pacers to defend their Eastern Conference title, but the team will certainly be motivated to prove that last season's run to the NBA Finals wasn't a fluke.
