Daryl Morey Expects Quentin Grimes Back with 76ers, Breaks Down Contract Talks

Zach BacharSep 26, 2025

Philadelphia 76ers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey expects the team to reach an agreement with restricted free agent Quentin Grimes before the start of the 2025-26 season.

"I think we will get to a resolution in the next few days, hopefully," Morey said Friday, per Derek Bodner of PHLY Sports. "We're excited to bring him back. Quentin's a big part of what we're trying to do, now and into the future, if we can get things resolved."

ESPN's Shams Charania reported Wednesday that Grimes and the 76ers were still "very far apart" on a new deal.

Grimes' agent, David Bauman, told Gina Mizell of the Philadelphia Inquirer that the 76ers made an offer to his client for a four-year deal worth $39 million.

Bauman believed that the shooting guard warranted a contract worth between $20 million and $25 million per year instead, via Mizell.

Michael Scotto of Hoops Hype also reported that the 76ers have formally offered Grimes a "one-year deal that's slightly higher than his qualifying offer of $8.7 million with the caveat that he'd waive his no-trade clause."

The 25-year-old would prefer a one-year offer higher than the $14 million non-taxpayer mid-level exception and within the $19 million range in order to waive the no-trade clause, per Scotto.

Grimes opened the 2024-25 season with the Dallas Mavericks before joining Philadelphia ahead of the trade deadline following a Feb. 4 swap.

He immediately stood out after the change of scenery, averaging 21.9 points and 5.2 rebounds to go along with 4.5 assists per game. He also shot 46.9 percent from the field and 37.3 percent from behind the arc in 28 contests.

Still, Philadelphia may be hesitant to meet his asking price given the small sample size of his impressive offensive production. Grimes might not be able to match his 2024-25 scoring output during the upcoming 2025-26 season in a backcourt rotation that also features Tyrese Maxey, Jared McCain and incoming rookie VJ Edgecombe.
