Quentin Grimes Offered $39M Contract by 76ers, Agent Says He Wants $20M+ Per Year

Zach BacharSep 25, 2025

The Philadelphia 76ers' recent offer to restricted free agent Quentin Grimes has reportedly been revealed.

David Bauman, Grimes' agent, told Gina Mizell of the Philadelphia Inquirer that the 76ers offered the shooting guard a four-year contract worth $39 million. Bauman believes Grimes deserves a deal worth between $20 million and $25 million per year instead.

An agreement on a one-year contract appears to be "most likely" outcome for both sides, per Mizell.

Michael Scotto of Hoops Hype provided more information:

"At this point, the 76ers have formally offered Grimes a one-year deal that's slightly higher than his qualifying offer of $8.7 million with the caveat that he'd waive his no-trade clause, league sources told HoopsHype.

"For Grimes to waive his no-trade clause flexibility on any one-year deal, Philadelphia's offer would preferably be somewhere north of the non-taxpayer mid-level exception ($14 million) and $19 million range, league sources told HoopsHype."

On Wednesday, ESPN's Shams Charania reported Grimes and the 76ers were "very far apart on a deal."

The 25-year-old came to Philadelphia as part of a Feb. 4 trade with the Dallas Mavericks and immediately stood out following the change of scenery.

Grimes averaged 21.9 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game while shooting 46.9 percent from the field and 37.3 percent from behind the arc in 28 appearances to close out the 2024-25 season with the 76ers.

Philadelphia's reported hesitancy to meet his asking price likely stems from the relatively small sample size of his impressive offensive output, as he entered last season with career averages of just 8.5 points and 2.5 rebounds per game.

It's also uncertain if Grimes will be able to maintain the same level of production in a crowded backcourt that includes Tyrese Maxey, Jared McCain and incoming rookie VJ Edgecombe.

If the two sides can't agree to terms on a multi-year deal, a short-term contract is an alternative.

Grimes could accept a one-year qualifying offer worth $8.7 million, which would also contain a no-trade clause.

Tony Jones of the Athletic also reported that the 76ers have offered Grimes a one-year "balloon payment" worth more than the qualifying offer, but the deal wouldn't include a no-trade clause.

Philadelphia's regular season begins on Oct. 22.
