Chiefs' Andy Reid Tops Sportico's 2025 List of NFL's Highest Paid Head Coaches

Joseph ZuckerSep 25, 2025

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid continues to set the financial bar for his peers.

With an annual salary of $20 million, Reid is the NFL's highest-paid coach, per Sportico's Kurt Badenhausen. One his AFC West rivals, the Denver Broncos' Sean Payton, is second on the list at $18 million.

Here's the top five:

NFL Highest-Paid Coaches

1. Andy Reid, Kansas City Chiefs ($20 million)

2. Sean Payton, Denver Broncos ($18 million)

3. John Harbaugh, Baltimore Ravens ($17 million)

T4. Jim Harbaugh, Los Angeles Chargers ($16 million)

T4. Mike Tomlin, Pittsburgh Steelers ($16 million)

With some wondering whether he might retire altogether, Reid signed a five-year extension worth a reported $100 million with the Chiefs during the 2024 offseason. Considering Kansas City has reached the Super Bowl in five of the last six seasons, few will argue with his status as the highest-paid coach.

Among those hired prior to the 2025 season, the New England Patriots' Mike Vrabel leads the way with a $14 million salary.

Vrabel was generally viewed as the top candidate on the market after compiling a 54-45 record in six years with the Tennessee Titans. He had the leverage to command a big contract.

Ben Johnson was in a similar position after the success he had as offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions. He parlayed his three years in that role into a $13 million annual payout from the Chicago Bears.

That figure is actually below his reported salary demands when he was gaining traction as a possible head coach toward the end of the 2023 season.

As a first-time head coach, Johnson certainly did well for himself given he's making as much as the Minnesota Vikings' Kevin O'Connell, who signed an extension on the heels of guiding the team to a 14-3 record in 2024.
