Deion Sanders Tells Michael Strahan Why He Decided on Surgery over Chemo for Cancer
Colorado head coach Deion Sanders has been candid when discussing his bladder cancer diagnosis and treatment, and he revealed some more details about his recovery.
While speaking to fellow Pro Football Hall of Famer Michael Strahan on Good Morning America, Sanders explained why he chose to undergo an aggressive surgery to remove his bladder and completely eradicate the cancer rather than being treated with chemotherapy.
"I prayed on it and I'm aggressive, man," Sanders said at the 2:07 mark. "I ain't waiting, I ain't sitting back on the curb waiting, just slowly but surely do whatever is gonna happen. No. Let's go right now, let's go get this thing."
Sanders announced in July that he was diagnosed with cancer on April 14 and underwent surgery on May 9. A cancerous tumor was discovered in his bladder and was successfully removed during the procedure. Despite his continued recovery, he said there won't be any limitations in coaching the Buffaloes for the 2025 season.
Colorado is off to a 2-2 start and most recently defeated Wyoming 37-20. The team will be back in action on Saturday against No. 25 BYU.
