76ers Tease Date for Allen Iverson-Era Throwback Uniform Reveal in New Photo
The Philadelphia 76ers appear to be closing in on the reveal of their highly-anticipated throwback uniforms that date back to Allen Iverson's MVP season.
The team hinted at the uniform's release date in a post shared on Tuesday on X with the date '9.24' etched in Iverson's iconic 'The Answer' armband.
Iverson famously wore the black jersey with a star motif while leading the Sixers to the 2001 NBA Finals.
He played parts of 12 seasons, including his 2000-01 MVP campaign, for the Sixers. Between 1999 and 2006, he earned seven consecutive All-Star nods with the team while leading the NBA in scoring three times.
The Sixers have shared multiple plans to honor the 2001 Eastern Conference champions on the team's 25th anniversary.
Last week, the 76ers shared a first look at a throwback court design that will be used for 14 games during the 2025-26 season.
The court, which features the throwback logo at center court and along both baselines, will make its debut for a Nov. 8 game against the Toronto Raptors.
The Sixers also announced the 2025-26 season schedule on Aug. 14 with a video that featured current 76ers players alongside stars from the 2000-01 roster.
The Sixers may be hoping that celebrating the Iverson era will help spark the franchise's recovery from a disappointing 24-58 campaign.
Signing Paul George in summer 2024 turned out not to be enough to make last year's team into a contender. Instead, amid injuries to George and Joel Embiid, the Sixers missed the playoffs for the first time since 2017.
The 76ers will now hope getting George and Embiid back, alongside healthy campaigns from young stars like Tyrese Maxey, will help the team return to postseason contention by next spring.
