Bryce Underwood, Michigan Outduel Dylan Raiola, Nebraska, Excite CFB Fans with 3rd Win
Two potential future NFL quarterbacks faced off Saturday as Michigan's Bryce Underwood and Nebraska's Dylan Raiola battled in Lincoln's Memorial Stadium.
Underwood ultimately helped lead Michigan to a 30-27 victory by going 12-for-22 for 105 passing yards, while adding 61 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown on eight carries.
Fans debated whether Underwood had won the quarterback battle after Raiola went 30-for-41 for 308 passing yards with three touchdowns and an interception, while losing 49 yards on seven carries in Nebraska's defeat.
Underwood helped Michigan climb out to an early 10-0 lead by running in a 37-yard touchdown at the end of the first quarter.
Raiola then found Jacory Barney Jr. on a Hail Mary pass with seconds left in the half to tie the game at 17-17 heading into the break.
Both quarterbacks also committed turnovers in the first half, with Raiola throwing a pick in the first quarter and Underwood losing a fumble in the second.
Michigan climbed ahead in the third quarter as Underwood led his team on a field goal drive before Jordan Marshall ran in a 54-yard touchdown on the next possession.
Raiola connected on some deep passes late in the game and closed out the fourth quarter by leading the Cornhuskers on a touchdown drive, but a late field goal by Dominic Zvada made the difference in Michigan's win.
The Wolverines leaned heavily on their run game, outgaining the Cornhuskers 282-43 on the ground in the win.
This might not be the last time Raiola and Underwood meet as opponents, either at the college level or as pros. Raiola is considered a top prospect for the 2027 draft, while Underwood will be draft-eligible in 2028.
For now, both Michigan and Nebraska will enter a bye week before returning to play on Saturday, Oct. 4.
Michigan, which was ranked No. 21 heading into the matchup, improved to 3-1 with a victory to open Big Ten play. Next up is a matchup with Wisconsin.
Nebraska meanwhile falls to 3-1 after suffering the program's first loss of the season. The Huskers will look to even out their 0-1 conference record in two weeks with a win against Michigan State.
