Trent Dilfer's Sideline Phone Use During UAB's Game vs. Tennessee Spotlighted by Fans
Cameras caught UAB football head coach (and former NFL quarterback) Trent Dilfer using his cell phone before his team's 56-24 road loss at Tennessee on Saturday.
Dilfer's Blazers have struggled in this one, falling behind 42-7 at half and 56-17 after three quarters.
Dilfer played in the NFL from 1994-2007 for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Baltimore Ravens, Seattle Seahawks, Cleveland Browns and San Francisco 49ers. His accolades include a Super Bowl victory with the 2000 Ravens, a 1997 Pro Bowl honor and the league's Bart Starr Award in 2003.
He enjoyed a long broadcasting career with ESPN for a decade before turning to coaching. Dilfer coached high school ball at Lipscomb Academy (Tennessee) from 2019-2022 before heading to college in 2023 to lead the UAB program.
Dilfer enjoyed great success at Lipscomb, going 44-10 and winning a pair of state championships.
It's been tough sledding at UAB thus far. Dilfer's squads went 4-8 in 2023 and 3-9 in 2024. This year's team struggled to beat Division I-FBS Alabama State (52-42) and a currently winless Akron team (31-28) that hasn't won more than four games in a season since 2017. In between, UAB lost 38-24 to Navy.
Now UAB has dealt with a blowout loss to Tennessee, although that was expected on paper given the Volunteers' No. 15 ranking, the Blazers' struggles and the Neyland Stadium homefield edge.
After a bye, UAB will look to bounce back on Saturday, Oct. 4 at home against Army.
