Tim Tebow Defends 'Elite' Carson Beck, Questions If Critics 'Just Trying to Be Haters'
Amid a red-hot start to the season for No. 4 Miami, Carson Beck is receiving support as one of the nation's best quarterbacks from Tim Tebow.
The former Heisman winner appeared on the Saturday morning edition of SportsCenter to praise the "elite" Beck and pondered if the critics of his game were "just trying to be haters" instead of appreciating what he's doing:
"Why not call him elite? Are we just trying to be haters on it? Like, come on. This dude's absolutely elite. Look at him in 2023. Last year, it wasn't quite as good but now, look at the way he's got a command of his offense. Look at his ball placement. Look at what he's doing on third downs. Look at the lack of turnovers. He is playing at an elite level. I don't care which area you want to talk about. If it's the leadership, if it's command of the offense, if it's confidence. By the way, he's in a new system and he looks like he's been in it for five years. This is a young man that a lot of people wanted to criticize last year but I think we need to take a look at his body of work and say, 'Hey, he's playing at a very high level for a long time and this year is just no different."
After starting last season as one of the Heisman favorites for Georgia, Beck had a rough run with more interceptions (12) than touchdowns (10) during a six-game stretch from Sept. 28 through Nov. 9.
Beck rebounded over the next three games with 11 touchdowns and no interceptions, but a shoulder injury suffered on the final play of the first half against Texas in the SEC Championship Game ended his season.
In an interview with Desmond Howard on College Gameday leading up to Saturday's showdown with Florida, Beck said he "didn't know if I was ever gonna be able to throw a football" like he had after undergoing surgery on his shoulder.
Beck initially declared for the 2025 NFL draft before deciding to enter the transfer portal and commit to Miami. He said in July that he was fully cleared to play
The early returns from Beck have the Hurricanes dreaming about a potential berth in the College Football Playoff. He has thrown for 812 yards, seven touchdowns and an FBS-best 79.3 completion percentage through three games.
Beck's first game with Miami was a marquee matchup with a Notre Dame team that was in the College Football Playoff Championship Game last season and started 2025 ranked sixth in the AP Top 25 preseason poll.
He rose to the challenge with 205 passing yards and two touchdowns in the 27-24 win over the Fighting Irish.
Beck wasn't the starting quarterback for either Georgia's back-to-back title teams in 2021 and 2022, but he threw for 3,941 yards and completed 72.4 percent of his attempts in 2023. The Bulldogs finished 13-1 that season but missed the four-team playoff after losing to Alabama in the SEC Championship Game.
Given the pedigree that Beck had prior to his rough stretch midway through last season and the injury that ended his 2024 campaign, it's hard to argue he's not one of the best quarterbacks in the country when healthy.
