Colorado has had a live mascot since 1966, when Ralphie I debuted. Ralphie VI was recently retired after four years of service before retiring to a buffalo companion role.

Per a press release from Colorado Director of Strategic Communications / Spokesperson Steve Hurlbert, Ralphie VII is a one-year old American Bison who weighs 700 pounds. The Beauprez family, who are multigenerational University of Colorado alumni and owners of own Eagle's Wing Ranch, gifted Ralphie VII to the university.

Hurlbert noted that Ralphie VII is "definitely not indifferent to running," certainly a good sign moving forward considering the live mascot's job to lead the team onto the field with a gallop alongside her handlers.

Ralphie VII will gallop before the team's 8:15 p.m. ET kickoff, with fans encouraged to be in their seats by 8 p.m. to welcome her to Colorado.

The Buffaloes have started this season 1-2, starting with a 27-20 loss to Georgia Tech before a 31-7 victory against Delaware. Colorado then fell 36-20 at Houston but will look to get back to .500 against Wyoming, which is 2-1 to begin the 2025 campaign.
