Arch Manning's Struggles Worry CFB Fans as Texas Earns Ugly Win vs. UTEP

Taylyn Hadley Sep 13, 2025

Despite the Texas Longhorns 27-10 win over the UTEP Miners, fans were worried about the No. 7 ranked Longhorns and Arch Manning after the team's struggles on Saturday at home.

At halftime, Manning had completed just 5-of-16 passes for 69 yards and one interception. Frustration mounted inside the stadium as boos rang out following his 10th consecutive incompletion late in the first half.

Manning finished 11-of-25 passing for 114 yards, one touchdown and one interception, but made his mark on the ground, rushing for 51 yards and two touchdowns. Wide receiver Ryan Wingo added a score of his own, finishing with 32 receiving yards. Kicker Mason Shipley knocked down nine points.

Manning's struggles as the 2-1 Longhorns struggled to bury UTEP on Saturday worried fans:

Manning and the Longhorns struck early, capping a nine-play drive with his 2-yard touchdown run on their second possession of the opening quarter. But momentum stalled in the second, when Manning was intercepted at UTEP's 10-yard line — the first of five straight scoreless drives for Texas.

Despite the offensive lull, the Longhorns clung to a 7-3 lead. Manning broke the dry spell just before halftime, punching in a 5-yard touchdown run to extend Texas' advantage to 14-3 at the break.

Out of halftime, Texas kicker Shipley drilled a pair of field goals — a 31-yarder and a 30-yarder — to stretch the Longhorns' lead to 20-3 by the end of the third quarter.

Manning finally found the end zone through the air in the fourth quarter, hitting Ryan Wingo for his first touchdown pass of the game to extend the Longhorns' lead to 27-3. UTEP answered with its first touchdown with 1:57 remaining, but it was too little, too late, as Texas cruised to a 27-10 win.

Texas returns to action next Saturday at home against Sam Houston.
