Recap

Rajeev Ram continued his run in Newport with another upset. This time, he toppled fifth-seeded Adrian Mannarino in three sets, 2-6, 7-6(8), 7-6(2). Ram faced two match points in the second set before eventually prevailing.
"Mannarino is such a tough opponent because he absorbs pace so well," the 31-year-old said after his victory, per ATPWorldTour.com. "I could hit through the court a bit here with my forehand, so I tried to find way to break him down."
Mannarino's serve let him down a bit. He completed just 55 percent of his first serves and double-faulted on five occasions. In a match where the margin for error was so small, those five double-faults came back to bite Mannarino in a big way.
Ram, on the other hand, moves on to the semifinals, where he'll meet John-Patrick Smith.
The 26-year-old had a little trouble in the second set against Tatsuma Ito but bookended his win with a 6-3 scoreline in the first and third sets.
Ito simply couldn't figure out Smith's serve, with the Aussie recording 15 aces and winning 81 percent of his first serves. Smith also sidestepped any treacherous moments, saving all three of Ito's break-point opportunities.
According to Jane Voigt of DownTheTee.com, Smith will be headed to his first semifinal on the ATP Tour:
In the remaining singles match, Brown dispatched sixth-seeded Querrey in three sets, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4. This was the final match of the second round, which started Wednesday but had to be carried over into Thursday after Mother Nature intervened.
Things picked back up Thursday with Brown up 4-3 in the third set:
That didn't leave much time for Querrey to turn things around, and a comeback simply wasn't in the cards for the 27-year-old.
Speaking after the match, Brown told reporters he knew he'd need to add a little bit more work to his pre-match preparation to ensure he would be able to quickly secure the final set.
"This is a match that if you put seven first serves in, the match can be over," he said, per the Associated Press (via ESPN.com). "I did the normal warm-up, and right when I saw that the [doubles] match was about to finish, I did another 20, 30 serves just so my arm was warm and ready to go straight on court."
Brown's reward for his hard work will be a date with big-serving Karlovic in the quarterfinals. Karlovic has struggled against Brown in the past, losing two of their three meetings. This will be the first time they play each other on grass.
