Dodgers Prospect Sam Horn Suffers Broken Leg as Missouri QB, Out for 2025 CFB Season

Los Angeles Dodgers pitching prospect and Missouri quarterback Sam Horn will miss the rest of the 2025 college football season after undergoing surgery to repair a fractured tibia in his right leg, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel.

Horn is expected to make a complete recovery from the injury, per Thamel.

He was projected to rotate at quarterback with Beau Pribula at Missouri this season, but suffered the injury on his first offensive snap of Tigers' 61-6 victory over Central Arkansas on Aug. 28 (h/t Ira Gorawara of The Athletic).

Pribula will continue to serve as the school's starter moving forward, while true freshman Matt Zollers will sit at No. 2 on the quarterback depth chart.

Horn is a two-sport athlete and was selected by the Dodgers in the 17th round of the 2025 MLB draft. The right-hander eventually signed with Los Angeles for a $497,500 bonus, per MLB.com's Jim Callis.

The deal also allowed him to play football.

While Horn only has seven appearances on the mound the under his belt, he missed the entire 2024 baseball season after undergoing Tommy John surgery.

He owns a 3.00 ERA in seven total games at Missouri, including five starts. Horn has also racked up 20 strikeouts while allowing 10 hits and 11 walks in 15 innings of work.

His college outlook is uncertain, as he's no longer eligible to play baseball at the school after signing with the Dodgers despite having one year of football eligibility remaining (via 247Sports' Gabe Dearmond).

For now, Horn will focus on the road to recovery.
