Justin Herbert Praises Quentin Johnston in Video After Chargers' Upset of Chiefs

Zach BacharSep 10, 2025

Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert was impressed with wideout Quentin Johnston's performance during the team's 27-21 win over the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 1.

"I think Q's another guy that gets a game ball," Herbert told Fox Sports' Mark Sanchez. "He had two huge touchdowns, made a whole bunch of plays and just looked fast out there. He was playing fast, free, relaxed."

"I'm so happy for him, he's put in so much work these past couple of years," he added. "He had a really good year last year as well. I think he caught eight touchdowns and had a whole bunch of yards."

Johnston finished with a team-high 79 yards on five catches against Kansas City, finding the end zone twice. This included a 23-yard touchdown reception with just over five minutes left in the fourth quarter, giving Los Angeles a two-score lead.

The victory over the Chiefs was especially impressive for the Chargers, as their previous win against their AFC West foe occurred in Dec. 2021.

Herbert was also stellar in the season-opener, finishing 25-of-34 for 318 yards and three touchdowns without turning the ball over.

Johnston's season debut is an encouraging sign moving forward, as the 2023 first-round draft pick has struggled to exceed expectations throughout his first two years in the NFL.

After recording 431 yards as a rookie, he hauled in 55 receptions for 711 yards and eight touchdowns during his sophomore campaign in 2024. Johnston struggled to consistently reel in targets, dropping five passes over his final eight games last season.

He didn't record any drops against the Chiefs, though.
