Michigan's Biff Poggi Will Be Acting HC During Sherrone Moore's 2-Game Suspension
The Michigan football team is set to be without head coach Sherrone Moore for the next two weeks, but the Wolverines have found their replacement.
Per Tony Garcia of the Detroit Free Press, Michigan has tabbed associate head coach Biff Poggi to be the team's acting head coach during Moore's two-game suspension for Week 3 against Central Michigan and Week 4 against Nebraska.
As part of Monday's announcement of Poggi's promotion, Moore told reporters that he will coach as he normally does, as he's permitted to remain with the team until his suspension officially begins at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday. He will not be permitted in the team's facility for the entirety of his two-week ban.
Poggi also served under former Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh and was described as his "right-hand man" by Garcia. He was also the head coach at Charlotte for two seasons in 2023 and 2024 before returning to Ann Arbor to join Moore's staff.
"Great being 'back home' at Michigan," Poggi posted on social media upon his return to the Wolverines. "The players, coaches, staff, administration and fans were so welcoming. It feels great to have a football home. It all started years ago with my son Henry Poggi's career as a player and my great friend Jim Harbaugh. Special people and place."
Michigan is coming off a 24-13 loss to Oklahoma on Saturday. The loss dropped the Wolverines eight spots in the AP Top 25 to No. 23.
Still, Michigan should feel like it is in good hands under Poggi, thanks to his familiarity with the program. The Wolverines will have a strong chance to bounce back against Central Michigan, which is coming off a 45-17 loss to Pitt.
