Tracy McGrady, Adidas Reportedly Agree to New Endorsement Contract After Past Split

Basketball Hall of Famer Tracy McGrady has reunited with Adidas on a new endorsement deal.

Per ESPN's Shams Charania, McGrady and Adidas have agreed to a new contract after he previously split from the company.

Charania noted as part of the deal that McGrady, Adidas and Sonny Vaccaro will work together to revive the Academic Betterment and Career Development youth basketball camp.

McGrady signed a lifetime contract with Adidas in April 2002. He was the second active NBA player at the time to receive a lifetime endorsement deal, following Allen Iverson's contract with Reebok.

In a 2020 appearance on the All the Smoke podcast, McGrady humorously thanked Kobe Bryant for leaving Adidas to join Nike after the 2001-02 season for helping him secure the bag from the company:

"If it wasn't for Kobe leaving Adidas, I probably wouldn't have gotten my big deal. I would've got leftovers. Man, my dog, thank you. Hey man, when Kob left, I was next on the totem pole. I moved up the charts, boy. And sh--, I got that big bag and still getting it. My dog, thank you."

Despite a partnership that was more than two decades old, McGrady signaled things were coming to an end with Adidas at the Hashtag Sports Conference in July 2022 because he felt he deserved "better" treatment than what he was getting.

McGrady had his own signature shoe as part of his original deal with Adidas. The brand released nine different versions of the T-Mac sneakers between 2002 and 2006.

The T-Mac 1 and 2 gained additional notoriety when LeBron James wore them while he was playing for St. Vincent-St. Mary.

McGrady had a stellar 15-year NBA career with six different teams. His best run was with the Orlando Magic from 2000 to '04 when he averaged 28.1 points per game, made the All-NBA team four times (two first-team selections) and All-Star team four times.

After retiring from the NBA in 2013, McGrady was elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2017.
