College Football 2025 Week 2 Rankings, Standings, Schedule and Predictions

Erik BeastonSep 3, 2025

The Ohio State Buckeyes sent a message loudly and clearly to the rest of the college football world: they are defending national champions and will not be dethroned easily.

The underdogs in last week's home game against the University of Texas Longhorns, they only needed 14 points to best the nation's No. 1 team and kick off what they hope is a successful defense of their championship.

Was that win enough to catapult Ohio State from No. 3 to the top of the AP poll, though?

Find out with this look at the rankings, the Week 2 schedule for the top 25 teams, and predictions for each of those games.

Oklahoma vs. Michigan Could Shape 2025 Season for Each Program

3 of 3
Illinois State v Oklahoma

Michigan and Oklahoma both secured important victories in Week 1 match-ups with New Mexico and Illinois State, respectively, but all eyes will be on their showdown in Week 2.

Both are proud schools with lofty expectations, but are in the midst of rebuilding their programs and find themselves outside of the top 10. They have the talent to compete in 2025, but any march toward national title contention begins, and potentially ends, Saturday in Norman.

Michigan freshman Bryce Underwood is a five-star recruit with enormous talent and is facing lofty expectations. This will be as tough a first test in the maize and gold that he will face. Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables will have his defense ready to attack and confuse Underwood, while the Sooners quarterback, Washington State transfer John Mateer, will have an opportunity to kick off a potential Heisman campaign this season against the Wolverines.

Mateer has played significant football in college before and knows what the high-pressure of big-time, Saturday afternoon games brings, something Underwood does not. He has the opportunity to announce his rival on a fairly large stage, against a fellow-ranked team full of similarly recruited players.

If he can do that, the sky is the limit for a Michigan team that previously felt like a year away from making a big splash.

There are a lot of "ifs" at play for Michigan, though, and the hometown crowd in Norman will be an entirely different monster to overcome.

A seasoned quarterback, a talented coach, and a potentially smothering defense should make Oklahoma the favorite and put the Wolverines in a scenario where they are forced to decide what the rest of the 2025 season will be, and mean, moving forward.
