FSU Fined $50K After Fans Stormed Field Following Alabama Upset in 2025 CFB Week 1
Florida State football started its season off right with a win over No. 8 Alabama, but the Seminoles now have to pay for what ensued following the victory.
Per The Athletic's Chris Vannini, Florida State has been fined $50,000 by the ACC because its fans rushed the field after Saturday's win.
Over the offseason, the ACC introduced new penalties to teams who storm the field after wins. The first offense warrants a $50,000 fine, while the second offense results in a $100,000 fine. The third offense and any others after that mean a school owes $200,000, with all money going to the conference's postgrad scholarship fund.
Those fines are steep, but not quite as much as those that the SEC introduced in May. Rather than an escalating fine system, the SEC fines teams $500,000 for any field-storming offense.
If there was ever an appropriate field storming, it was Saturday night in Tallahassee. The Seminoles, who went 2-10 a season ago, managed a strong showing against a top-10 team
Florida State jumped out to a 17-7 lead in the first half before making it 24-7 early in the third quarter. The Crimson Tide got back into the game with a field goal and a touchdown, but the Seminoles put the game away with a fourth-quarter touchdown from running back Gavin Sawchuk.
Transfer quarterback Tommy Castellanos, who talked a big game ahead of the matchup, led the way for the Seminoles with 152 passing yards and 78 rushing yards, adding a score on the ground.
Since it's still early in the year, it's hard to say whether the win is a reflection of how good Florida State is or if it's more about what level Alabama might be on, but the Seminoles appear to be on their way to a bounce-back year.
