Michael Jordan, Mia Hamm, More Stars Reportedly to Attend Bill Belichick's UNC Debut
North Carolina icon Michael Jordan is reportedly expected to attend Bill Belichick's head coaching debut with the school as the Tar Heels face off against TCU on Monday night, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel.
He won't be the only high-profile name in Chapel Hill, however. Per Thamel, Jordan, Mia Hamm and Julius Peppers will be among the stars in attendance:
On3.com's Adam Smith first reported the news of Jordan's expected attendance.
When Belichick was hired by North Carolina in Dec. 2024 following a legendary tenure with the New England Patriots, he revealed that he spoke with Jordan before accepting the job.
Tar Heels football general manager Michael Lombardi also revealed that the six-time NBA champion has been involved with the team heading into their season-opener.
"Look, Michael Jordan's presence is more important than opening up his billfold," Lombardi said during a Thursday appearance on the Pat McAfee Show (h/t On3.com's Alex Byington) "Michael Jordan involved with our program is what matters."
"I think to me him wanting to be involved, him wanting to give us the Jordan Brand – which I wear every single day – that's really important," he added.
Before Jordan's stellar career with the Chicago Bulls in which he earned four MVP awards, he spent three years at North Carolina from 1981-84. He averaged 17.7 points and 5.0 rebounds per game on the Tar Heels, helping them clinch a national championship in 1982.
Belichick shares a similarly impressive track record during his 24 years patrolling the sidelines for the Patriots, owning a record of 266-121 with the team. He won six Super Bowls in New England and took home three AP Coach of the Year awards.
The 73-year-old will look to help the Tar Heels bounce back from a 6-7 finish last season with several new faces, as their 2025 transfer portal class ranked No. 9 in the country (via 247Sports).
Kickoff between North Carolina and TCU on Monday is at 8 p.m. ET.
