Aaron Rodgers Reportedly 'Has Added a Level of Accountability' with Steelers
Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is reportedly making a positive impression ahead of the start of the 2025 NFL regular season.
According to Jeff Howe of The Athletic, Steelers sources said Rodgers "has added a level of accountability on the practice field and in the facility."
Howe added that while the offense is still finding its footing in some respects, Rodgers "has been intentional about teaching as much as possible after each play."
The 41-year-old future Hall of Famer is fresh off a less-than-ideal stint with the New York Jets, following a highly successful run with the Green Bay Packers that saw him win four NFL MVP Awards and one Super Bowl over 18 seasons.
In New York, Rodgers played just a few snaps during his first season with the team before tearing his Achilles, but he returned to start all 17 games last season.
Rodgers' surface-level numbers weren't bad, as he completed 63.0 percent of his passes for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, but it didn't translate to winning football with the Jets finishing just 5-12.
The vibes around the team were off all year as well, and it didn't help matters when Rodgers passed the buck at times, such as when he blamed wide receiver Mike Williams for a game-ending interception against the Buffalo Bills.
Howe's report suggests Rodgers may be turning over a new leaf and taking a different approach in his first season with the Steelers.
Patience will likely be key given that Pittsburgh made several key additions on offense, including Rodgers, wide receiver DK Metcalf, tight end Jonnu Smith and rookie third-round pick Kaleb Johnson at running back.
The Steelers have made the playoffs in back-to-back seasons and four of the past five campaigns, but they haven't won a playoff game since the 2016 season, so there is some pressure to go on a deeper run.
Rodgers is facing that same pressure given that he is near the end of his career, and 2025 could very well be his final season.
The first major test of the Steelers' revamped roster led by Rodgers will come on Sept. 7 when Pittsburgh goes on the road to face Rodgers' old team in the Jets in Week 1.
