Malcolm Brogdon Reportedly Eyed by Knicks, Wolves amid Warriors Links in NBA FA
Despite being linked to the Golden State Warriors, free-agent point guard Malcolm Brogdon remains on the open market amid the team's contract impasse with forward Jonathan Kuminga.
Amid Brogdon's continued availability, NBA insider Jake Fischer reported that he's "been on the radar for" the New York Knicks and Minnesota Timberwolves.
Fischer noted that Golden State's "long-running stalemate" with Kuminga "has contributed to the uncomfortable wait" for Brogdon's free agency. Kuminga hasn't accepted the $7.9 million qualifying offer he received earlier this summer, and the Warriors won't increase their two-year, $45 million contract offer. The delay with Kuminga has also stopped the team from completing its expected signings of Al Horford, De'Anthony Melton, Gary Payton II and second-round pick Will Richard.
While the Warriors are dragging their feet, teams like the Knicks and Timberwolves could swoop in to try to convince Brogdon to join them as he tries to return to his old form.
The 32-year-old is coming off his second straight injury-riddled season. He was limited to a career-low 24 games for the Washington Wizards, who had acquired him in a draft-day trade with the Portland Trail Blazers. He averaged 12.7 points, 3.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists in his brief time on the court. He's played a combined 63 games over the last two seasons.
When healthy, Brogdon is a reliable floor general who can bring a stabilizing veteran presence to any locker room. Both the Knicks and Timberwolves could use a player of his caliber as they try to contend for a title in 2025-26, so the Warriors are running the risk of losing him as they continue to wait things out with Kuminga.
