Kyrie Irving Updates Knee Injury Rehab, Says He's 'Doing a Little Bit More' in Gym

Scott PolacekAug 27, 2025

Kyrie Irving is working his way back from the torn ACL he suffered last season.

"I was in the gym, doing a little bit more," the Dallas Mavericks guard said in his latest update on Twitch. "I won't tell you exactly what I was doing because it's all about incremental growth. But I can share with you all that there were some good days in the gym. I'm healing up great."

Irving underwent surgery in March and is expected to miss the start of the 2025-26 campaign with no set return date in place, although ESPN's Shams Charania reported in April there was "optimism" he would return by January.

This is another positive update after he revealed in May that his rehab was "going really well."

Injuries and the shocking Luka Dončić trade undercut the Mavericks' 2024-25 campaign, and they lost in the Western Conference play-in tournament. Anthony Davis and Dereck Lively II were among those who missed significant time in addition to Irving, which proved to be too much to overcome in a difficult Western Conference.

Things will look much different for the Mavericks when Irving does return, and the current roster in place could help them move past the Dončić trade and compete in the West.

They selected Cooper Flagg with the No. 1 overall pick of the 2025 NBA draft, which gave them a franchise cornerstone to build around for years to come. They also added D'Angelo Russell and have a solid core of players heading into the new campaign.

With Davis, Irving, Flagg, Likely, Klay Thompson and Russell, Dallas could be dangerous by the time the playoffs arrive.

It will have to stay healthy first, and that starts with Irving fully recovering from his torn ACL and returning to the court. His latest update suggests he will be able to do just that as he continues to make progress.
