5-Star OL Darius Gray Commits to South Carolina Over OSU, LSU, Clemson, Tennessee

The future outlook of South Carolina's offensive line received quite the boost Friday.

That is because Darius Gray—who is a 5-star prospect and the No. 30 overall player and No. 2 interior offensive lineman in the 2025 class, per 247Sports' composite rankings—committed to the Gamecocks, per Hayes Fawcett of Rivals.

Fawcett noted Gray chose South Carolina over LSU, Tennessee, Clemson and Ohio State.

Landing someone this talented is a victory in and of itself, but that this recruiting win came over conference rivals in LSU and Tennessee made it all the more noteworthy for the Gamecocks. 

With the conference moving to nine league games starting next year, successfully recruiting players like Gray and keeping him away from other teams in the SEC can be the difference between a College Football Playoff spot and a disappointing season.

Prior to Gray's commitment, South Carolina had the No. 22 class in 2026, per 247Sports' composite rankings. This will help Shane Beamer's program move up as he continues to put together next year's class.

"Relentless energy allows him to not only be a plus finisher in the run game, but also readjust and recover in pass sets," Andrew Ivins of 247Sports wrote of Gray. "Tends to punch with authority and frequently has the upper and lower halves dancing to the same tune.

"Has what it takes to certainly handle one of the corners on Saturdays, but combination of brute force and rare movement patterns suggest that he could emerge as a cheat code of a guard in a zone-blocking scheme."

That sounds like someone who can anchor the offensive line in South Carolina in the near future, which is exactly what Gamecocks fans want to hear after the latest recruiting win.
