Notre Dame Unveils CFB-Themed Leprechaun Mascot in Hype Video Ahead of 2025 Season
Ahead of the 2025 college football season, Notre Dame's famed Leprechaun logo received an upgrade.
The Fighting Irish revealed their updated football-themed mascot on Thursday in a video on social media:
The football logo is likely the first of more sport-specific logos coming to Notre Dame this season. The standard Leprechaun had been the school's logo for over 60 years. The Football Leprechaun merchandise is already available to purchase, and the updated logo was also designed into a custom piece in collaboration with artist David Nott:
The Fighting Irish are coming off a special season in their third year under head coach Marcus Freeman, as they went 14-2 in 2024 and clawed through the College Football Playoff to reach the national championship game. Unfortunately, they weren't able to hoist the trophy after losing to Ohio State.
Notre Dame is ranked No.6 in the AP Top 25 entering this season. On Wednesday, the team named redshirt freshman CJ Carr as its starting quarterback for the upcoming campaign. He beat out sophomore Kenny Minchey in this offseason's quarterback competition and will now succeed last year's starter Riley Leonard as the new leader of the offense.
The Fighting Irish will begin their quest for a second straight run to the national title game when they open the season on Aug. 31 in a primetime matchup against No. 10 Miami.
