Arkansas CFB to Implement 3-Minute Timer to Delay Field-Storming Amid SEC Fine Change
Arkansas is enacting a three-minute period after home wins, during which fans are not permitted to rush the field in celebration, in an effort to allow players, coaches, team personnel and officials to leave the playing area.
In May, the SEC increased the penalties for rushing the field or court to $500,000 per incident, replacing the previous escalating system of punishments. That money goes to the visiting school in conference games and to the SEC itself for non-conference matchups.
Alabama alone was on the receiving end of a pair of field-rushes last season.
"The motivation was, 'Field rushing is field rushing, the first time or the 18th time,'" SEC commissioner Greg Sankey told reporters at the time. "The random nature of, if you're the one getting rushed, it doesn't feel good. It might be the first time (it happened) there, but it might be your sixth time in a row, literally."
