Dez Bryant Re-Signs with Cowboys: Twitter Reacts to Star WR's New Contract
Dallas Cowboys star receiver Dez Bryant re-signed with America's Team on Wednesday. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported the new contract is worth $70 million over five years with $45 million guaranteed.
ESPN Dallas' Todd Archer added Bryant's signing bonus is $20 million. Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET marked the deadline for franchise-tagged players to secure long-term contracts, so Bryant got in just under the wire.
Nick Eatman of DallasCowboys.com captured the moment Bryant put pen to paper:

Jaguars' Hypothetical Alvin Kamara Trade Offer
Twitter had plenty to say about the first-team All-Pro's massive deal. Darren Rovell of ESPN noted how Bryant's deal dwarfs the huge payday another prolific Cowboys pass-catcher received two decades ago:
Bleacher Report's Matt Miller had a savvy reply to illustrate the booming popularity of the NFL:
Most believed Bryant deserved the money. Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green felt Bryant was well within his rights to command such a salary:
Entrepreneur T. Boone Pickens had an idea for how Bryant could spend some of his money:
".@DezBryant #OKState proud of you. We’re both rich now. Want in on #OKState football stadium? “Pickens/Bryant Stadium” Not cheap though.
— T. Boone Pickens (@boonepickens) July 15, 2015"
ESPN Stats & Info put into context how much the Cowboys valued Bryant by agreeing to give him so much assured money:
The Cowboys averted potential disaster by securing Bryant for the long haul as well. With mostly mediocre results until last season, it was key for Dallas to lock up its premier playmaker to have hopes of being a playoff contender in the coming years.
ESPN's Ed Werder remarked on what Bryant's fresh contract meant to the organization:
"#Cowboys secure Dez Bryant, avoid collusion suit, potential for acrimonious relationship between star player and Jerry, Stephen
— Ed Werder (@Edwerderespn) July 15, 2015"
Bryant's attitude was a bit much to handle when he initially entered the NFL. He lacked maturity, and the Cowboys essentially policed him away from the football field. ESPN's Skip Bayless praised how Bryant has grown over the years:
The 11th-hour resolution between Bryant and Dallas was preceded by him threatening to sit out games without a long-term deal in tow.
But the 26-year-old phenom has stayed out of trouble and been among the very best at his position in recent years, thus earning the right to be demanding. Bryant has averaged 91 catches, over 1,300 yards receiving and has totaled 41 touchdown grabs in the past three seasons.
Veteran quarterback Tony Romo needs all the help he can get as he approaches the end of his window for a championship. Now that Bryant is happy, Romo can be at peace and know his most talented receiver will be locked in and ready to go as Dallas vies to defend the NFC East crown in 2015 and shoots for a Super Bowl.
