Johnny Manziel Has 'High Expectations' for Arch Manning's 1st Season as Texas QB1
A former Heisman Trophy winner and college football legend thinks that Texas quarterback Arch Manning has all the makings for a big season.
Johnny Manziel, who took home the Heisman Trophy in 2012 while playing for Texas A&M, had high praise for Manning ahead of his first season as the Longhorns' starter.
"I think he's going to live somewhere in the top three of the SEC when it's all said and done," Manziel said on the Pat McAfee Show. "I think with the people he's had around him, the way he was raised, the way that he's grown up. I think he's prepared for what he's getting himself into. But when it comes down to it, it is SEC football. They are going to scheme for him, they are going to be prepared for him, they know what kind of quarterback he is, so he's getting everybody's best shot... I have high expectations... He has the opportunity with the schedule, he has the opportunity with the conference to do everything he needs to do to be in New York in December. So I expect some good things from Arch."
Manning, the nephew of Peyton and Eli Manning and the No. 1 player in the class of 2023, showed flashes of what he's capable of while playing behind Quinn Ewers last season. Despite limited appearances, he threw for 939 yards, nine touchdowns and two interceptions.
His skills were on full display when he started against Mississippi State, throwing for 325 yards and two touchdowns, adding 33 yards and a score on the ground.
Now, Manning will get a full season at QB1, and Manziel, along with many others, believes he can be special.
