Baylor Reveals Black Uniforms with Chrome Helmets for 2025 CFB Season in Video, Photos
Baylor University announced Thursday that its popular gold chrome helmets will return during the upcoming 2025 college football season.
In a series of posts on X, Baylor showed off the helmets, which feature a slightly revamped look compared to the gold chrome helmets they previously wore from 2013 to 2017:
According to Trent Knoop of Baylor Bears on SI, Baylor revealed that the football team will wear the gold chrome helmets, along with all black uniforms, when it hosts Auburn in its season-opening game on Aug. 29.
Led by head coach Dave Aranda, Baylor is coming off a resurgent 2024 season that saw it finish 8-5.
The Bears posted losing records in the previous two campaigns, going 6-7 in 2022 and 3-9 in 2023.
In Baylor's final season under Matt Rhule, Baylor went 11-3 in 2019. Aranda took over in 2020, overseeing a dip to 2-7, but the Bears enjoyed one of the best seasons in program history in 2021, finishing 12-2.
At .857, it represented Baylor's best winning percentage since going 9-1 in 1916, and it felt at the time that a golden age of Baylor football was perhaps on the horizon.
Although that didn't necessarily come to fruition, last season's bounce-back is a positive sign, and the return of the gold chrome helmet and black uniforms could go a long way toward getting the fanbase even more excited for the 2025 season.
When Baylor initially sported the gold helmets from 2013 to 2017, it coincided with one of the Bears' greatest runs of success ever.
From 2013 to 2015 under Art Briles, Baylor won double-digit games in three straight seasons, which is something the program hasn't pulled off since.
If Baylor is going to return to that level this season, it will undoubtedly have to earn it, as the early-season schedule is potentially treacherous.
After starting with a perennial SEC power in Auburn, Baylor will then face No. 16 SMU in its second game and No. 11 Arizona State in its fourth game.
If Baylor can come out of the first month of the season with a .500 record or better, the 2025 campaign could prove to be another fruitful one for Aranda and Co.
