Cuba battle Guatemala and Mexico take on Trinidad and Tobago in Wednesday's Gold Cup 2015 fixtures. The latter contest will be highly significant in determining the final standings in Group C.

Trinidad have been the surprise package of the tournament, winning their opening two fixtures to top the group. Meanwhile, a talented El Tri squad isn't quite firing on all cylinders just yet.

Cuba vs. Guatemala

Date: Wednesday, July 15

Time: 6 p.m. ET / 11 p.m. BST

TV: Fox Sports 2 / ESPN UK

Live Stream: Fox Soccer 2GO.

It's Guatemala with everything to play for here. As this video from CONCACAF's official YouTube channel notes, the Cubans are officially playing for pride:

But Guatemala's draw with Mexico has the left door ajar, albeit only slightly, for qualification. The team was incredibly stubborn during the goalless stalemate with El Tri.

ESPN FC writer Tom Marshall felt that Guatemala relied on a deep and packed defensive structure to deny their more free-flowing and forward-thinking opponents:

"

Honduras and Guatemala have recorded shutouts against a strong Mexican attack by defending in numbers (both played a back five), frustrating El Tri with tactical fouls and often overly physical challenges and using the forward players to stop Mexico playing out from the back, as [Miguel] Herrera's teams like to do.

"

Marshall also noted how Mexico manager Miguel Herrera felt Guatemala gave his team "20,000 kicks."

Guatemala dominated the physical battles against Mexico.

But after doing what they felt they had to to do early on against a tournament favourite, Guatemala's players are unlikely to be so pragmatic again.

After all, there's more at stake here. Qualification will only be achieved by winning the match, preferably after making a noticeable dent in the scoreboard rather than in Cuban shins.

That will require an approach more committed to attacking, so expect to see plenty of high pressing and pressure on the man in possession.

Such intensity will need to be matched by a strong performance from powerhouse forward Minor Lopez. He looked dangerous against Mexico, although he did miss an excellent chance to break the deadlock.

Lopez must upset the Cuba defence early.

Lopez must find his shooting range against Cuba.

Pick: Guatemala 1-0 Cuba

Cuba's resolve will keep the score down and mean Guatemala joins them on an early walk through the exit door.

Mexico vs. Trinidad and Tobago

Date: Wednesday, July 15

Time: 8:30 p.m. ET / 1:30 a.m. BST

TV: Fox Sports 2 / ESPN UK

Live Stream: Fox Soccer 2Go.

While a draw against Mexico was celebrated for Guatemala, it was a disaster for El Tri. Herrera's talented squad, one packed with plenty of attacking flair, failed to deliver.

Herrera needs more from his talented attacking players.

Further failure won't be tolerated, even against in-form Trinidad. Frankly, though, Herrera's team has created needless pressure for itself.

Few squads at this tournament boast the same riches in forward areas. One attacker in particular could catch the eye, according to ESPN FC's Cesar Hernandez.

He's identified Giovani dos Santos as a potentially key figure, suggesting: "Dos Santos could work alongside Carlos Vela or balance out a more attack-heavy three-striker formation with Peralta as well. "Gio" has been inconsistent in the past, but as of late, the ex-Barcelona attacker has been on fine form for the national side."

Dos Santos certainly has the ability to unlock any defence. He's a mercurial creative force who plays between the lines and is blessed with exceptional technique.

Those qualities may push a desperate Herrera to give him a start. In fact, Trinidad boss Stephen Hart is already preparing for Dos Santos, according to the ESPN Tri official Twitter feed:

Dos Santos' pace and craft certainly dovetail well with the cheetah-fast speed and width offered by Carlos Vela. It's a partnership that just seems to suit the intricate, combination passing Herrera's team thrives on at its best.

The Vela-Dos Santos double act can be key to Mexico's chances.

But the coach will hope Dos Santos isn't too distracted by the transfer hype currently surrounding him. The 26-year-old appears on the verge of joining MLS outfit LA Galaxy.

The news broke via a report in the Los Angeles Times (h/t Sky Sports). Playing on American soil could prove to be a great motivation for Dos Santos ahead of his big move.

Herrera needs the balance in attack to be right. There's too much quality going forward for El Tri to be drawing blanks at this tournament.

Pick: Mexico 4-1 Trinidad

With qualification at stake, Mexico will click into gear and send reality crashing down onto a game Trinidad team. In the process, El Tri will offer a reminder of its credentials as one of the tournament's best teams.
