E.J. Warner, Hall of Famer Kurt Warner's Son, Reportedly Named Fresno State's QB1
Transfer quarterback E.J. Warner was named Fresno State's starter under center for the 2025 season, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel.
Warner is the son of Pro Football Hall of Fame passer Kurt Warner.
E.J. was in a preseason position battle with fellow transfer Carson Conklin and sophomore Jayden Mandal before securing the starting job.
His "experience, consistency and leadership" helped him capture the top spot on the Bulldogs' depth chart, per Thamel.
The younger Warner transferred to Fresno State on Jan. 10 after spending the 2024 season at Rice. He also played for Temple from 2022-23.
He's coming off a 2024 campaign in which he completed 62.0 percent of his throws for 2,710 yards and 17 touchdowns to go along with 13 interceptions in 11 games.
Warner will look to provide a boost to a Fresno State squad that finished with a 6-7 record last season, a particularly disappointing result considering the Bulldogs won at least nine games in each of the prior three years.
Matt Entz was hired as the team's new head coach in Dec. 2024, replacing interim head coach Tim Skipper. Entz previously won two FCS national championships with North Dakota State.
As Fresno State targets a resurgent 2025 campaign, it'll begin the season against Kansas on Aug. 23.
