Warriors Reportedly Refuse to Amend Jonathan Kuminga Contract Offer amid Trade Rumors

The Golden State Warriors aren't changing the team's contract offer to restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer.

"But Golden State, sources say, is not open to amending its stance on the second year of the two-year, $45 million offer it has extended to the 22-year-old swingman," Fischer reported Sunday. "The Warriors are insistent that Year 2 is a team option; Kuminga would naturally prefer a player option."

The 22-year-old has been linked to the Phoenix Suns and Sacramento Kings as a potential sign-and-trade acquisition.

An offer made for Kuminga reached nearly $90 million over four years with a player option during Golden State's discussions with Phoenix and Sacramento, according to ESPN's Shams Charania and Anthony Slater.

The Warriors have "welcomed" sign-and-trade requests for Kuminga but aren't interested in parting ways with Buddy Hield or Moses Moody in order to make a swap work, per Fischer.

Kuminga is coming off a 2024-25 campaign in which he averaged 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. He shot 45.4 percent from the field and 30.5 percent from three-point territory.

His overall production represented a step down from his 2023-24 season, as he recorded 16.1 points and 4.8 rebounds per game on 52.9/32.1/74.6 shooting splits.

At just 22 years old, Kuminga could bounce back with better health. After all, he appeared in a career-low 47 games last season due to ankle issues.

Still, Kuminga's recent injury woes could be giving Golden State concerns about making a long-term financial commitment to him.

The Warriors have interest in Chicago Bulls restricted free agent Josh Giddey, per Fischer. There isn't a "feasible pathway" to exchanging Giddey for Kuminga, though.

As things currently stand, Kuminga and the Warriors still seem to be in a stalemate during contract negotiations.
