Rockets-Thunder, Warriors-Lakers Reportedly Set for 2025-26 NBA Opening Night Schedule
Opening Night of the 2025-26 NBA season will reportedly feature multiple matchups between Western Conference teams looking to return to the playoffs.
According to ESPN's Shams Charania, the Houston Rockets will travel to face the Oklahoma City Thunder on Oct. 21 while the Los Angeles Lakers will host the Golden State Warriors.
The Thunder, Rockets and Lakers occupied the top three spots in the West standings last season while the Warriors made the playoffs as the No. 7 seed.

Every Team's Biggest Regret This Season 😞
Oklahoma City will likely be looking to make a statement in its first regular-season contest following the team's 2025 championship victory. Houston is attempting to challenge for the top spot in the conference after acquiring star forward Kevin Durant in a blockbuster seven-team trade on July 6.
Although Durant and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander remain two of the league's most lethal all-around scorers, the matchup could wind up becoming a battle on the other end of the floor. The Thunder and Rockets ranked No. 1 and No. 5 in defensive rating among all teams last season, respectively (via NBA.com).
Meanwhile, matchups between LeBron James and Stephen Curry never fail to live up to expectations.
The Lakers have been busy during the offseason while they build around James and Luka Dončić, adding Deandre Ayton and Marcus Smart as free agents. Los Angeles also brought in forward Jake LaRavia on a two-year deal worth $12 million.
Golden State hasn't been as active in free agency, but will still have postseason aspirations with Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green surrounding Curry.
After all, the Warriors owned a 22-5 record in the 27 regular-season games that Butler shared the court with Curry during their 2024-25 campaign.
