5-Star EDGE LaDamion Guyton Commits to Texas Tech over Georgia, FSU, Tennessee
LaDamion Guyton, a 5-star edge-rusher from Benedictine Military School in Savannah, Georgia, committed to Texas Tech on Thursday, according to Hayes Fawcett of Rivals.
The Red Raiders beat out Georgia, Tennessee and Florida State for his commitment.
According to 247Sports' Composite Rankings, Guyton is considered the No. 2 prospect in the Class of 2027 and both the top edge-rusher overall and the top player from the state of Georgia.
Hudson Standish of 247Sports compared him to former Atlanta Falcons pass-rusher Vic Beasley, calling him a "twitchy two-point edge rusher with the snap anticipation, change of direction, and initial quickness to disrupt plays before they get started" who projects to be a "potentially versatile rush piece who could supercharge a front seven early in his collegiate career" and "should be viewed as a potential early-round NFL Draft selection."
Guyton's production can't be denied, with 16.5 sacks and and 134 tackles (33 for loss) between his freshman and junior seasons. And Texas Tech felt like the right fit once he visited the school.
"The best thing about the visit was just feeling at home," he told Chad Simmons of On3. "I wanted to get away, try something new—and the people there made it easy. The people make me feel like family. You can tell what’s real and what's fake, and they're real at Texas Tech. It felt like family. Nothing weird, nothing forced—it is all natural with them."
"Coach McGuire cares about his players—every coach there does," he added. "They have something going on. The energy in the program is real, and it's growing."
