Glen Powell Awards Scholarship to Texas Football Walk-On Marshall Landwehr in Video
Texas sought help from actor Glen Powell to present a surprise to walk-on linebacker Marshall Landwehr.
Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian introduced a video of Powell announcing that Landwehr was being awarded a scholarship for his efforts on the field.
Sarkisian wrapped up the ceremony by delivering a message of his own to Landwehr: "When we talk about everybody in this room has a role in the organization, this is the epitome of that dude. I couldn't be more fired up for you man. Congratulations!"
Landwehr originally joined the Longhorns in 2021, but he didn't see game action in either of his first two seasons. He appeared in two games during the 2023 campaign.
As a fourth-year senior in 2024, Landwehr appeared in 13 of Texas' 16 games. He played primarily on special teams, recording six combined tackles.
Trey Luerssen of Longhorns Wire noted Landwehr and defensive back Michael Taaffe are the lone players still on the roster from the 2021 team that finished 5-7 in Sarkisian's first season.
Taaffe, a fellow walk-on, was awarded a scholarship in December 2022 prior to the Alamo Bowl against Washington.
Texas enhanced the presentation by getting help from Powell to announce it. The celebrated actor, who was born in Austin, Texas, briefly attended UT before dropping out at the age of 19 to pursue his onscreen career.
Powell has since taken classes and is close to receiving his degree from the university. The 36-year-old is best known for his supporting role in Top Gun: Maverick and his co-starring role in the Netflix romantic comedy Set It Up.
The next major role for Powell will be as the lead in the television series Chad Powers, based on the character originally created by New York Giants legend Eli Manning. The series will premiere with two episodes on Hulu on Sept. 30.
Powell is also starring in Edgar Wright's remake of The Running Man that will be released into theaters on Nov. 7.
