- Kevin Durant, Houston Rockets (UFA after 2025-26)
- De'Aron Fox, San Antonio Spurs (UFA after 2025-26)

- Trae Young, Atlanta Hawks ($49 million player option for 2026-27)
- Zach LaVine, Sacramento Kings ($49 million player option for 2026-27)
Dončić, who previously held a player option for the 2026-27 season, is now signed with Los Angeles through 2028.
The status of James' expiring contract will become an even hotter topic of conversation now that the Lakters have committed to Dončić as the face of the franchise after reportedly not offering James an extension this offseason, per ESPN's Ramona Shelburne and Brian Windhorst.
James is turning 41 in December, and he hasn't yet confirmed that he plans to return for a 24th season in the NBA.
While James could be on track for a split from the Lakers should he hit free agency next season, Durant has meanwhile reportedly been undergoing contract talks with the Houston Rockets. ESPN's Shams Charania reported after the Durant trade news broke in June that the goal for both Durant and the Rockets was for him to "retire in Houston."
Durant is eligible for a maximum two-year deal of $118 million if he re-signs, per ESPN's Tim Bontemps and Bobby Marks.
Fox, who was also the subject of a blockbuster trade earlier this year, is heading into the final year of the five-year deal he signed with the Sacramento Kings prior to his trade to the Spurs.
The Spurs could sign Fox for up to four years and $229 million this summer. An anonymous front office executive in San Antonio told Spotrac's Keith Smith in July that the team is "hopeful we can make something happen to keep him in San Antonio for a long time."
Other extension talks to keep an eye on include those involving Hawks star Trae Young, who is eligible for a four-year, $222 million deal but could wait until next offseason to lock in his next deal with the team.
The Houston Rockets' Fred VanVleet, Oklahoma City Thunder's Isaiah Hartenstein, Hawks' Kristaps Porziņģis, Washington Wizards' C.J. McCollum and Khris Middleton, Miami Heat's Andrew Wiggins and Boston Celtics' Anfernee Simons are other high-profile players who could potentially hit free agency after next season, per Spotrac.
