Deion Sanders' Recovery from Bladder Cancer Surgery Documented in New Video
Colorado football coach Deion Sanders shared a new look at his recovery from bladder removal surgery in a video posted Tuesday by Deion Sanders Jr.'s Well Off Media YouTube Channel.
The video starts with Sanders putting a fist in the air as he is brought in to surgery on May 9 in order to remove the organ after being diagnosed with bladder cancer earlier this year.
The video was published a day after Sanders discussed his cancer diagnosis during a Monday press conference during which both the coach and his medical team spoke to reporters.
The cancer was discovered during routine scans to address Sanders' history of blood clots, team trainer Lauren Akevold said.
Dr. Janet Kukreja, director of urologic oncology at the CU Cancer Center and UCHealth University of Colorado Hospital, told reporters that the bladder removal and replacement had been successful and that Sanders had been cured.
The video shows Sanders checking up on friends and loved ones shortly after the operation, including members of the 2024 Colorado team like Travis Hunter, Jimmy Horn Jr. and his sons Shilo and Shedeur Sanders.
The Colorado coach is shown repeatedly focusing on his faith as he grapples with his cancer diagnosis in the hospital before he is eventually flown back to his home in Texas.
Sanders made his first public appearance since the surgery during Big 12 media days on July 9. The 57-year-old said on Monday that he plans to return to Boulder to coach Colorado during the upcoming college football season.
