Michigan's Sherrone Moore Says There Will Be 'No More Flag-Planting' After OSU Fight
Things took a turn for the worst after Michigan players planted their school's flag at midfield of Ohio Stadium following last year's victory over the rival Buckeyes, but the Wolverines will not be doing something like that in the future following the fights that ensued.
Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore told reporters Thursday, "there will be no more flag planting" after his team's wins during the 2025 season.
The flag planting kickstarted an ugly scene, as Ohio State players confronted those who did so. Fights broke out across the field, and police even used pepper spray to break things up.
Emotions were surely raw, especially on the Buckeyes' side after a fourth straight loss in the annual rivalry showdown. Last year's result was the most shocking in that span, as the Scarlet and Gray had arguably the most talented roster in the country and were at home.
By comparison, Michigan was mediocre at best and putting the finishing touches on a five-loss season that ended in the Reliaquest Bowl.
But the Wolverines stymied Ohio State's offense throughout the afternoon and continued its recent run of dominance in the rivalry after the Buckeyes won 15 of the previous 16 matchups prior to 2021.
Ironically, the flag-planting incident may have turned things around for Ohio State last season.
The team had a players-only meeting after the loss and responded by winning the national championship in dominant fashion. The Buckeyes trailed for a grand total of six minutes during their four postseason games as they defeated Tennessee, Texas, Oregon and Notre Dame by a combined score of 145-75.
That Michigan and Ohio State have won the past two national championships will add yet another layer of intrigue to their clash this year, but it doesn't sound like the Wolverines will be celebrating in the same way if they extend their winning streak.
