Texas A&M Live Mascot Reveille X Has Eye Removed in Surgery, Expected Back in Fall
Reveille X, Texas A&M's iconic mascot, had surgery to remove her eye after being diagnosed with glaucoma, according to Texas A&M president Mark Welsh III.
According to Welsh, Miss Reveille X was diagnosed with glaucoma during a recent checkup after experiencing cloudiness and discomfort in her right eye.
"At the recommendation of our world-class veterinarians at the Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, Miss Rev underwent surgery earlier today to relieve any discomfort," Welsh said in a statement. "During surgery, the veterinary team discovered signs of abnormal tissue, and out of an abundance of caution, removed her eye. The tissue was sent to an ocular pathologist for evaluation, which is standard practice."

Despite having surgery to remove her eye, Miss Reveille X will continue her duties as Texas A&M's mascot. According to Welsh, she'll take a "brief hiatus" to recover from surgery, but fans "can expect Miss Rev to be back to enjoying all her favorite activities — cruising on Rev Force One, attending classes, cheering on the Aggies and keeping our campus squirrels in line — this fall."
Reveille has been a staple of Texas A&M since the 1930s, and Miss Reveille X took over mascot duties in 2021. While she went through a health scare this offseason, it seems she'll be back on the sideline at Kyle Field in just over a month.
The Aggies are coming off a decent first season under head coach Mike Elko, going 8-5 with an appearance in the Las Vegas Bowl. Texas A&M will begin the 2025 campaign on Aug. 30 with a in-state matchup against UTSA at home.
