Marlins' Sandy Alcantara Reportedly 'Unlikely to Move' at MLB Deadline amid Struggles
Miami Marlins veteran starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara has struggled mightily this season, and his trade value has dwindled leading up to the July 31 deadline.
The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal reported that Alcantara "seems unlikely to move" due to his astronomical 7.14 ERA this season.
Alcantara has a 4-9 record through 19 starts in 2025, marking his fourth straight year with at least nine losses. He's pitched 97.0 innings but recorded just 73 strikeouts while surrendering 106 hits. His 77 earned runs are less than 10 shy of his career-high 85 earned runs given up in 28 starts in 2024 and 32 starts in 2019.

Bold MLB Predictions For May 🔮
It wasn't that long ago that Alcantara was considered one of the best pitchers in the game. He earned his second career All-Star selection in 2022 and was named the NL Cy Young Award winner that year after finishing with a 14-9 record, a 2.28 ERA and 207 strikeouts in 228.2 innings pitched.
Any team that acquires Alcantara before this year's trade deadline will certainly be hoping that he will be able to return to his previous form. However, he has yet to show any signs of turning things around this season, so pursuing him would be a major risk.
