Nebraska's Matt Rhule Responds to Scott Frost's Remarks, 'It's the Right Job for Me'

Former Nebraska head coach and current UCF head coach Scott Frost made waves earlier in July when he told reporters that the lesson he learned from his time with with the Cornhuskers was to not "take the wrong job" and that it "wasn't a good move."

On Tuesday during Big Ten media days, current Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule told reporters that "it's the right job for me," though he also defended Frost.

"I have a ton of respect for Scott," he said. "And I've always been very empathetic for what he went through, because this was his home. If you guys fire me tomorrow, I'm just going to go back to Cape May and sit on the beach—go back to where I'm from. But this was his home."

He also said he understood Frost's perspective on his ill-fated time with Nebraska.

"I know what it felt like to get run out of Carolina," Rhule said, referencing his short-lived time as the head coach of the Panthers. "And I would say to people, 'I don't think I took the right job for me. It wasn't the right fit.' That doesn't mean it's a bad job."

Because Frost led Nebraska to a joint national championship in 1997 as the team's quarterback, his comments perhaps hit a bit different. His 16-31 record leading Nebraska as the head coach between the 2018-22 seasons didn't help, nor the fact that he added he was "lucky to get back to a place where I was a lot happier" while speaking about UCF.

After his playing days, Frost likely didn't have to pay for any meals in Lincoln. He may not be allowed into the restaurant these days.
