Kylian Mbappe Reportedly Will Wear No. 10 Real Madrid Jersey After Luka Modric Exit
Kylian Mbappé is switching numbers.
The Real Madrid superstar is going from the No. 9 he wore last season to No. 10 after Luka Modrić left this summer for AC Milan, per ESPN's Julien Laurens, freeing up the number.
According to that report, "Mbappé also wears No. 10 with the France national team and a source told ESPN that it had always been the plan for him for him to take that number at Madrid once it was available. Mbappé, though, was prepared to spend another season with No. 9 if Modrić had extended his contract for another year, a source added."
Mbappé, 26, led La Liga with 31 goals last season, though Real Madrid failed to win any major trophies, leaving it as a bittersweet debut campaign for the French superstar. That was contrasted with his former team, PSG, winning the Champions League title for the first time in its history.
