Clippers' Depth Chart, Salary Cap After Chris Paul Joins Kawhi, Harden and Beal
The Los Angeles Clippers fortified the team's backcourt rotation on Monday, reportedly signing Chris Paul to a one-year contract worth $3.6 million.
Paul will be returning to a Clippers organization that he previously spent six seasons with from 2011-17.
Los Angeles now has $194.7 million in projected salary for the 2025-26 season and remains just under the $195.9 million first apron, via ESPN's Bobby Marks.
Here's how the Clippers' depth chart will look following the addition of the veteran guard:
PG: James Harden, Chris Paul, Kris Dunn
SG: Bradley Beal, Bogdan Bogdanovic, Cam Christie
SF: Kawhi Leonard, Derrick Jones Jr.
PF: John Collins, Nic Batum, Kobe Brown
C: Ivica Zubac, Brook Lopez, Yanic Konan Niederhauser
According to ESPN's Shams Charania, Paul had "multiple suitors" in free agency before deciding to join the Clippers for what will "likely" be his final season in the NBA.
The 40-year-old's decision to join Los Angeles doesn't come as a major surprise, as the team was reportedly viewed as the top contender for his services.
Paul spent the 2024-25 season with the San Antonio Spurs, averaging 8.8 points and 7.4 assists per game on 42.7/37.7/92.4 shooting splits.
Paul will look to provide an offensive boost to a Clippers squad that has won at least 50 games in each of the past two years and is looking to secure a fourth consecutive playoff berth next season.
While Los Angeles owned the third-best defensive rating in the league during the 2024-25 season, its 114.3 offensive rating only ranked No. 15 among all 30 teams (via NBA.com).
The Clippers have already made multiple rotation additions during the offseason, signing veteran shooting guard Bradley Beal to a two-year deal worth $11 million after the Phoenix Suns bought out his contract.
They also acquired high-flying power forward John Collins as part of a three-team trade that included the Miami Heat and Utah Jazz.
As the Clippers pursue a deep playoff run next season, they added Paul on Monday.
