Chris Paul Reportedly Viewed as Clippers' 'Signee to Lose' in NBA Free Agency

The Los Angeles Clippers reportedly are seen as the leading candidate to sign Chris Paul in free agency.

According to NBA insider Marc Stein, "most rival front offices" view Paul as Los Angeles' "signee to lose at this point."

Clippers president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank also revealed that the team is "strongly, strongly considering him," per Stein.

Paul spent the 2024-25 season as a member of the San Antonio Spurs, but is likely headed towards a change of scenery.

Stein previously reported that the veteran point guard wants to play closer to his home in Los Angeles.

Paul spent six seasons with the Clippers from 2011-17, helping lead the team to the playoffs in each year that he spent with the organization. He ranks No. 1 on Los Angeles' all-time assists list and No. 2 on its all-time steals leaderboard.

While Paul's days of contending for MVP awards are in the rearview mirror, he's shown that he can still serve as a capable lead guard. He averaged 8.8 points, 7.4 assists and 1.3 steals per game on 42.7/37.7/92.4 shooting splits during his 2024-25 campaign.

The Clippers have been busy during the offseason, acquiring forward John Collins while sending out Norman Powell as part of a three-team trade involving the Miami Heat and Utah Jazz.

They also signed veteran shooting guard Bradley Beal after the Phoenix Suns bought out his contract.

While Beal and James Harden will likely occupy Los Angeles' starting backcourt next season, Paul could serve as a key bench option to lead the Clippers' offense when Harden isn't on the floor.
