LeBron James, Lakers Reportedly Not Trending Toward Trade or Buyout amid NBA Rumors
Amid speculation about LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers parting ways by either a trade or buyout this offseason, the two sides are reportedly trending toward continuing their partnership.
NBA insider Jake Fischer reported on a Bleacher Report livestream Thursday that James and the Lakers are expected to move forward with their partnership despite speculation that a divorce could be in play after a volatile summer.
"LeBron's got a no-trade clause," Fischer said. "There are few teams that could really put together a compelling offer that would both be worth it to the Lakers, that would match LeBron's salary and would also leave his next theoretical team with enough in the mix to actually compete for a championship.

"So, it's only July 17. Who the hell knows what could happen between now and February's trade deadline, but the prevailing expectation around the league right now is that LeBron James is going to be back in Los Angeles. He is going to be a part of the Lakers for training camp."
James picked up his $52.6 million player option for the 2025-26 season in June, but doing so didn't guarantee his future with the Lakers. After James decided to opt into his contract, his agent, Rich Paul, made comments indicating that James was mulling the idea of playing elsewhere.
"LeBron wants to compete for a championship," Paul told ESPN's Shams Charania. "He knows the Lakers are building for the future. He understands that, but he values a realistic chance of winning it all. We are very appreciative of the partnership that we've had for eight years with Jeanie [Buss] and Rob [Pelinka] and consider the Lakers as a critical part of his career.
"We understand the difficulty in winning now while preparing for the future. We do want to evaluate what's best for LeBron at this stage in his life and career. He wants to make every season he has left count, and the Lakers understand that, are supportive and want what's best for him."
Doubts about James staying in Los Angeles intensified after Charania reported earlier this month that the star "feels clearly that the Lakers are more in a futuristic mindset" and that some "hard conversations" will "need to happen."
But Los Angeles fans got some good news earlier this week when The Athletic's Dan Woike and Joe Vardon reported that the Lakers "expect" James to be with the team for training camp once the season begins.
Fischer's report on Thursday indicates that James will remain with the Lakers for at least the start of next season. If that's the case, he and co-star Luka Dončić will look to carry the team to a deep playoff run following last year's disappointing first-round exit.
